Join us at Selwyn Lake Lodge for 4 days of fly-fishing with
RA Beattie & Mike Dawes from July11th to 15th, 2016!
Beattie Outdoor Productions and WorldCast Anglers have teamed up with Adventure Destinations International for a special hosted fly fishing week in the upper reaches of Canada. Join hosts RA Beattie and Mike Dawes at Selwyn Lake Lodge, the location for Beattie’s recent film, Turning Points North, which is currently touring the world with the Fly Fishing Film Tour and Rise Film Tour. In the film, renowned angler Jeff Currier emphasized pike as a bucket list species, a must-see for any serious angler.
“Pike take you to beautiful places that are different than those inhabited by trout--backwoods, weedy corners of lakes and big sloughs off rivers. There's lots of mystery in every cast, not knowing if you’re targeting a 25- or 45-inch fish,” explains Jeff. “The fish themselves are a must-see--the teeth, the attitude, the mean look, long body, twisting power.”
Here, surrounded by literally, hundreds of lakes and waterways, you'll have the opportunity to fish for some of the largest pike on the planet. Saskatchewan specimens are particularly impressive, growing slowly in this cold climate, about one inch annually. Basically, if you land a big pike and measure age in inches, you’re landing an ancient fish. The Saskatchewan record measured at 55 inches. At Selwyn Lake, 53 inches is the record.
This unique week is limited in availability--open to only 12 anglers--and will focus on fishing for trophy northern pike, lake trout and Arctic grayling against the stunning taiga backdrop of northern Saskatchewan, a mere stone's throw from the Northwest Territories.

Try your luck at a North Country Slam--landing a trophy pike, grayling and lake trout.
Under the tutelage of expert anglers, you'll learn to catch trophy pike using a variety of tactics--topwater, deep subsurface, and sight fishing approaches. We'll also cover landing lake trout on the fly. A grayling option will be available to interested anglers.
We'll fish full long days, and due to the almost limitless amount of daylight during this time of year, anglers have the added bonus of being able to get back on the water after dinner for a few additional hours. This is a very unique perk to fishing in the Arctic and at Selwyn Lake Lodge, as most destinations do not offer this additional fishing opportunity at the end of each day. (we suggest tipping the guides extra for after hours fishing, as they are not compensated for this guiding time but eager to be on the water with you).
Hosted Trip "Extras"
There are many benefits to a hosted trip. Beyond fishing instruction with experts and long days on the water, RA will offer an evening photo / video clinic, as well as a fly tying night. Casting lessons are available upon request.
Selwyn Lake Lodge is a premier fly-in fishing lodge offering uncompromising luxury and legendary Canadian fishing. Selwyn Lake is 45 miles long and 18 miles wide, spanning the Saskatchewan-Northwest Territories border. From the lodge on Common Island, guests have virtually unlimited opportunity for discovery and adventure every day of their stay.
The Lodge does not hesitate to promise you an unparalleled fishing experience. It is not uncommon to catch and release multiple trophy fish, including numerous lake trout, huge northern pike in the 40" - 50" range as well as the “Sailfish of the North,” the Arctic grayling. The Lodge also offer guided, fly-out excursions to remote wilderness lakes for a fantastic angling experience (additional fee for flight).
The facility guarantees privacy, plus the best in modern convenience and technology. Ten guest rooms include comfortable beds and private three-piece bathrooms and daily maid and laundry service. After a day on the lake, enjoy the well-appointed dining room, gourmet meals, and fine wines. Enjoy hot appetizers and delicious dinners each evening and then retire to the comfortable lounge.
Note: The Lodge also has a registered massage therapist onsite should anyone request a massage after a long day of fishing. Massage rates apply.
Prior to the trip, we will send an extensive recommended gear list, but anglers should be prepared to fish a variety of heavier rods (8 - 10 wt) with floating, intermediate and sinking lines. Additionally, anglers will want light tackle for grayling fishing. While most anglers prefer to fish their own rods, reels and lines, WorldCast Anglers can provide demo rods, reels and lines on request. Leader, tippet and flies are also available for purchase.
We highly recommend overnighting in Saskatoon on Sunday, July 10th in the rare event you encounter lost baggage or flight delays.
We'll depart Saskatoon at 3:00 PM on Monday, July 11th and have two chartered aircraft flights. The first from Saskatoon to Stony Rapids via fixed wheel aircraft. From Stony Rapids, you'll take a final flight into the Lodge on float plane, arriving to your destination around 6:00 PM.
