Our professional guides all have many years of experience angling in the Churchill River system, are skilled in a variety of fishing techniques and share their love of fishing with their guests. We always recommend hiring a guide for the best possible angling experience on Otter Lake!
The fishing can change on Otter Lake week-by-week (and sometimes, day-by-day) depending on water levels, temperatures, insect hatches and fish behaviours. Our experienced guides are passionate about fishing and dedicated to following the movement of the fish in the Churchill system throughout the season - you'll often see them spending a full-day after full-day on the water only to sneak out in the evenings to recon other fishing areas for the next day's excursion.
Sight-seeing is often a part of a guided angling day on Otter Lake. You'll likely spend time fishing near the famous Otter Rapids, the Native American rock paintings on the Stewart River or visit Robertson and Twin Falls. Our guides are happy to arrange for sight-seeing-only tours for families, tourists or corporate groups that are less interested in fishing and more interested in seeing the Canadian Shield landscape by boat. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for black bears, moose, bald eagles, beavers and otters!
No adventure to the north is complete without a shorelunch made with freshly caught fish over a roaring campfire! Each guide has his specialty recipes, but you can expect to each freshly caught fish, fried potatoes, baked beans and an assortment of snacks and desserts.
Fish Filleting and Freezing Service
After your day on the water, our guides and dock-hands are happy to offer you a fish filleting, packaging and freezing service to help you transport your catch home. Our filleting and freezing service is located at the Thompson's Camps main docks.
